project 1

idea

quick sketch

reference for skull

final piece
Descriptive:
For this piece I took a skull and I made its brains melt out of it's head. The skull shows that, it, is all we are and the melting of the brain is to express that a lot of people lose their minds when trying to do something well. But even if it didn't go well you made something out of it. Then you get to think, hey at least it looks cool right? and you feel better about yourself because everyone else's brain is a little melted too. And the middle part is the head of an arrow, because I like arrows. Not much to interpret from that one.

Analysis:
For my first project I stayed geometric because I like shapes. I tried to go back and forth between value and flat when working with each different shape to give it contrast. I intended it to be symmetrical, but you can tell that it's not in some places. I left the composition in the middle and it brings attention to the skull.
Medium:
For the medium I used various types of graphite pencils. I tried to give it more value by using more than one in different places but it overall has a flat gray tone to the whole piece. Afterwards I went back into the drippy parts of the brain and added some ink to make the drips look more heavy and stand out more individually.

Self reflect:
I wish I would have made it more symmetrical because I'm that type of person who likes things even. I also wish I would have put some colour into it to make different parts stand out more so it doesn't seem so flat and like you can just glance at it and see everything about the piece. I also feel like there is a lot of empty space where I could have done more to it to make it look better.

Idea:
I don't really know where I got the idea from. I think I just drew too many triangles next to a sketch of a skull and was like hey I bet that'd look cool. Then I did it, turns out it doesn't look too bad. But the picture I had in my head was a lot better. I'll work on it.
