project 4

final

draft

idea
Description/ Interpretation:
This piece is an egg that is breaking in one point and all the pieces are flying out. The background is abstract. The egg represents my life, and the pieces represent all the things I don't have together. I don't have my life together, there should be more pieces. The egg isn't a normal chicken egg because those are boring and the spots make this egg more unique and draws focus from the background.

Analyze: This piece has contrast between the egg and the background because the egg is super white and the background is colourful. The background has movement because its all going in one direction but the pieces of the egg draw some attention away from the egg itself.

Medium: For this piece I worked in acrylics and started with the background. I used every colour paint I had to make the background and to mix all the colours together. I started with brighter colours and went over them with darker cooler colours to dull it down. Then I started with the white on the left side and added the pieces on the left. And added the spots at the end.

Self Reflect:
This piece is really weird. And I don't really like it. I wish i would have done a better job on the shadowing of the egg. I like the background and where I was going with that but I odn't like what I put on top of it. I like the movement and how it seems to flow but I feel as if the egg takes away from that too much for my liking even though the background isnt the main focus.

project 3

Description/ interpretation:
This piece has a lava like background, with flat black triangles across the middle and white drips coming from the top and bottom. Each one of the three triangles represents a specific event in my life and that is why the last one is cut off. It hasn't finished yet. The black represents the fact that each triangle was taken over by something else, something more sinister without me ever really realizing. The white drips represent a path because they force you into the middle, but they have places to turn just to trick you in the end. It always looks like there are many options, but in the end its all the same road. The coloured background represents light, and that it will always be underlying beneath darkness. Even when its not the first thing you see.

Analyze:
This piece has many forms of contrast. Comparing the flatness of both the black and the white between the colourful background makes whatever you choose to look at stand out. The contrast also has to do with colour and the black versus white, white versus colour, black versus colour. I feel as if the drips coming from both the top and the bottom make it appear symmetrical as well. The painting has movement from the triangles moving across the page and the fact that the drips move up and down towards the triangles.

Medium:
for this piece I painted in acrylics. I started with the background by adding different shades of mostly orange, then red, then highlights of yellow. Once that dried I took white paint and glow in the dark paint and made the drips from the top, waited for those to dry and repeated with the bottom. Once that was finished I taped out triangles across the page and painted them in and removed the tape. I had no method behind this really, i just did it and it looked appealing to me. I made no plans or rough drafts.

Self Reflect:
I really like this piece because of the background. I like the flow of all of the colours by themselves and the way they all look together. I'm a geometric type of person so the triangles I like, but they are plain in themselves. I really like the drips because dripping things always reach out to me and because they are glow in the dark. I wish i would have layered the background more before doing anything with it but overall I actually really like this piece even though its plain and what you see is what you get.
